Happy 110th Birthday Walt Disney

.

Born Walter Elias Disney on December 5, 1901, the man who became the American Icon was a film producer, director, screenwriter, voice actor, animator, entrepreneur, entertainer, and philanthropist.

During his lifetime he received four honorary Academy Awards and won twenty-two Academy Awards from a total of fifty-nine nominations, including a record four in one year, giving him more awards and nominations than any other individual in history. Not to mention the special Academy award he received for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs presented to him by Shirley Temple.

Walt Disney has received so many honors and awards, he has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, one for motion pictures and the other for his television work. He received the Congressional Gold Medal on May 24, 1968 and the Légion d'Honneur awarded by France in 1935. In 1935, Walt received a special medal from the League of Nations for creation of Mickey Mouse, held to be Mickey Mouse award. He also received the Presidential Medal of Freedom on September 14, 1964. On December 6, 2006, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and First Lady Maria Shriver inducted Walt Disney into the California Hall of Fame located at The California Museum for History, Women, and the Arts. There is even a minor planet, 4017 Disneya, discovered in 1980 by Soviet astronomer Lyudmila Georgievna Karachkina, that is named after him.

So many people have loved and still love Walt Disney for what he has done and what is still being done in his name - not just ME. So I want to wish him a very happy birthday, in the great Fantasy Land in the Sky and thank you for all you have done for me and everyone in the world.

"I only hope that we don't lose sight of one thing - that it was all started by a mouse."

June 14th ~ Flag Day: Let Your Pride Fly High!

.

In the United States, Flag Day is celebrated on June 14. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened that day by resolution of the Second Continental Congress in 1777. The June 14 date is also when Congress adopted "the American continental army" after reaching a consensus position in the Committee of the Whole.

In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day; in August 1949, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress.

FYI: The United States flag has not always had thirteen stripes. The first flag of the United States, adopted by Congress on June 14, 1777, had thirteen stripes and thirteen stars, each representing the thirteen original colonies. After Vermont became the fourteenth state in 1791 and Kentucky became the fifteenth became the fifteenth state in 1792, Congress added two more stars and two more stripes to the flag in 1795. When five more states joined the Union, Congress ruled that after July 4, 1818, the flag would revert permanently to thirteen stripes.

Please remember to fly your flag today and keep in mind those who are serving in the military now and who have served in the past so we have the freedom to do so and remember those that have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.

God bless Old Glory and God bless America!
