Labor Day is the creation of the labor movement, dedicated to the social and economic achievements of all American workers; commemorated by an annual national tribute to the contributions those workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.
While there is still some doubt as to who first proposed the holiday for workers, it is clear that the Central Labor Union adopted a Labor Day proposal and appointed a committee to plan a demonstration and picnic, the first one being celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City. In 1884 the first Monday in September was selected as the holiday and the Central Labor Union urged similar organizations in other cities to follow the example of New York and celebrate a "workingmen's holiday" on that date. The idea spread with the growth of labor organizations, and in 1885 Labor Day was celebrated in many industrial centers of the country.
On June 28, 1894 Congress passed an act making the first Monday in September of each year a legal holiday in the District of Columbia and the territories.
So as you celebrate this holiday today, please remember all of the Americans working hard to keep things running in our country so that we can have all the wonderful things we do. Also keep in mind those that are out of work during this trying time and do whatever we can to help them. Remember that United we Stand!

Great Post honey! I looked it up just to see what it would say! I ran into much information regarding 9/11 too! 10 yrs this year. I didn't realize, but I'll tell you it still makes me choke up when I think about it. Did you know there was a pear tree they have that was by the towers that didn't die? I didn't know that. Plus that they're building at the site? I didn't know that either. Where the hell have I been? Sheesh! Later friend!
