The Simple Woman's Daybook ~ November 30, 2009

Peggy began this meme The Simple Woman's Daybook in her words:

"Would you like to linger on the simple things...then join me and many others in taking a little look into the day plans and thoughts of those who are focusing on simplicity...beauty of the 'everyday moments'."

FOR TODAY ~ November 30, 2009 ~ from Lorie's Daybook

Outside my window ~ Sun is going down, weather is warm, about 74 degrees.

I am thinking ~ I have GOT to get the Christmas presents wrapped because Alexander & Rachel are coming on Friday for 2 weeks, then I have my surgery.

I am thankful for ~ the fact that Alexander & Rachel are coming down on Friday!!

I am wearing ~ brown capri linen slacks and pink & brown Capn. Jack Sparrow t-shirt, and of course: NO SHOES!

I am remembering ~ how much I really missed having my boys here for Thanksgiving, and the look on Alexander's face when he made a turkey for me the last time he was here and I took his photograph because it came out PERFECT!

I am going ~ grocery shopping tomorrow morning, and to a parade and awards ceremony for the 124th National Guard Infantry on Saturday at our Veteran's Memorial and Founder's Park.

I am currently reading ~ Permission Slips by Sherri Shepherd

I am hoping ~ Alexander & Rachel's drive down here is safe and uneventful.

On my mind ~ the President's speech tomorrow, and what he plans to do about the troops (my oldest son, Nikolaus, included) in Afghanistan.

From the learning rooms ~ all I can about cervical spine fusion surgery.

Noticing that ~ I have too much laundry and gifts to wrap before Friday... AGH!!

Pondering these words ~ "What can I do?" Spoken to me by my wonderful friend, Beth R. as soon as she heard I was having neck surgery.

From the kitchen ~ A new chicken recipe that is made with tomatoes, red wine, balsamic vinegar, and garlic butter... it was delicious!! Plus it was OK for Bill to eat, even with his liver disease and his gall bladder gone... YEAH! :-)

Around the house ~ gotta put the Thanksgiving decorations away and the Christmas ones up, as soon as the slave Alexander gets here.

One of my favorite things ~ learning more and more about photography and playing with color and lighting.

From my picture journal ~ Our grandson "Little Man" from the other night, out to dinner with his parents. They texted this photo to us. I wish he wasn't so far away... I miss them all SO much. Isn't he a doll?

Peggy began this meme The Simple Woman's Daybook in her words:

FOR TODAY - November 16, 2009 from Lorie's Daybook:

Outside my window ~ Very dark, it is midnight, I am waiting for the meteor shower.

I am thinking ~ about my aquatherapy tomorrow morning and how I really should get to sleep.

I am thankful for ~ my son, Alexander's upcoming visit in 18 days... YIPPEE!!

I am wearing ~ my jammies (it is midnight)

I am remembering ~ how much I miss my other son, Nikolaus, who just came for a visit last week.

I am going ~ to aquatherapy at 8:30 in the morning (I hate getting up that early) and I am still sore from going this morning! :-(

I am reading ~ Memories and Lamentations by Kenneth Weene

I am hoping ~ Get caught up on all my emails and get my Halloween and EPCOT posts finally done and uploaded.

On my mind ~ the war in Afghanistan and my son, Nik's deployment.

Noticing that ~ there are many wonderful people in the blogging world who are being so supportive of me while my son is deployed.

Pondering these words ~ from my husband: "You were the best looking person in the pool this morning, sweetie!" Isn't he just the bestest guy in the world?

From the kitchen ~ My hubby suggested hotdogs for supper because he knew how much pain I was in after my aquatherapy today. What a guy...

Around the house ~ too much laundry to do, and we need to have some maintenance done on the house that we really cannot afford... but we will manage somehow, we always do.

One of my favorite things ~ taking photographs of the wildlife here in town, pretty soon there should be wild turkeys to go with the gators, deer, and river otters.

From my picture journal ~ My two favorite people, aren't they just the cutest?

The Simple Woman's Daybook - October 26, 2009

Peggy began this meme The Simple Woman's Daybook in her words:

"Would you like to linger on the simple things...then join me and many others in taking a little look into the day plans and thoughts of those who are focusing on simplicity...beauty of the 'everyday moments'."

FOR TODAY...October 26th from Lorie's Daybook

Outside my window ~ hot, hazy, humid... you would think it was July or August and not October.

I am thinking ~ it is getting so close to Halloween, I better get my baggies made for the 200 or so kiddies that will be coming to the house.

I am thankful for ~ the fact that it is only 39 days until Alexander come down for his visit to see us - Yippee!!

I am wearing ~ denim skirt, Halloween scrub top (left over from my working days) they are SO comfy and 100% cotton, and of course - barefoot!

I am remembering ~ it is ONLY 20 days before Nikolaus is deployed.

I am going ~ to a Halloween party on Wednesday, Bill is going as Uncle Sam and I am going as Auntie Samantha.

I am reading ~ Reader's Digest.

I am hoping ~ this physical therapy will stop giving me migraines and start helping my neck and back.

On my mind ~ every time I turn on the news, I hear news of soldiers killed in Afghanistan and my heart stops for those poor families left behind, and then for my poor little boy.

From the learning rooms ~ how to stretch our social security checks even more and more, and what we are going to do next year now that there will be no Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) for 2010.

Noticing that ~ there are not as many people decorating for Halloween in our community this year - I think the economy has caught up to everyone in every way.

Pondering these words ~ Spoken by my youngest son, Alexander: "I have the best birthday present for you... Rachel and I will be coming down for a visit the first week in December to see you and Pop." I responded that if he could see me, he would see that I was doing The Happy Dance!!

From the kitchen ~ grilled chicken from KFC, because you can get a free piece today - that's one of my favorite four-letter words: FREE.

Around the house ~ gotta start getting things organized if we are really planning on moving at the beginning of the year... it's still up in the air, but we can't wait until the last minute.

One of my favorite things ~ CHOCOLATE... so I love Halloween time.

From my picture journal ~ This is the entrance to my front door... There are other decorations on our front porch, but you'll just have to wait until Halloween to see them all - as they look better in the dark {and I don't want the little hoodlums to steel them, we have had a bit of vandalism in town, boo!!}

The Simple Woman's Daybook: October 19, 2009

Peggy began this meme The Simple Woman's Daybook in her words:

"Would you like to linger on the simple things...then join me and many others in taking a little look into the day plans and thoughts of those who are focusing on simplicity...beauty of the 'everyday moments'."

FOR TODAY ~ October 19th from Lorie's Daybook

Outside my window ~ dark and cold for this time of year, we had record cold last night

I am thinking ~ that I have such very special blogger friends who have said such wonderful things about me on Jennifer's blog (
Eighty MPH Mom) since she featured me.

I am thankful for ~ the support The Hubs gives me in everything I do

I am wearing ~ capri jeans and a t-shirt, I actually have socks on tonight :-) because the temperature has dropped so low

I am remembering ~ picking out pumpkins with the boys {it was Alex's job to find 4 pumpkins that represented each of us}; and buying apples from Bishop's Orchard to make apple pie and apple crisp, plus the delicious warm apple cider donuts that they had... mmmmm

I am going ~ physical therapy (or as I prefer to call it "physical torture") twice a week now

I am reading ~ (still) The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Anne Shaffer and Annie Barrows

I am hoping ~ it warms back up, a bit... I don't like the cold - I know we complained about the oppressive heat, but it dropped 40 degrees overnight... that's just WAY too much. It needs to go back up about 20 degrees, somewhere around 80 is great!!

On my mind ~ what we are going to do about selling our current house, to try and buy a new house in the Active Adult Community we toured over the weekend

From the learning rooms ~ trying to learn more & more on how to increase traffic to promote my blog, and learn how to write better (my son and my husband think I'm a wonderful writer, but they really don't count!).

Noticing that ~ the holidays seem to come faster each year - I can't believe there are so many Christmas decorations out already and Halloween hasn't even passed yet

Pondering these words ~ from The Hubs after my first physical therapy appointment and I could barely move the next day: "So you're all better now, wanna take the dog on a run around the block?"

From the kitchen ~ delicious spaghetti with tomato sauce with sausage and fresh basil from my window sill and a wonderful red wine from Italy

Around the house ~ LOTS of Halloween decorations

One of my favorite things ~ being greeted by Nano (my Yorkie) when I come back from my P.T. appointment - he jumps up and down and gives me lots of kisses, and makes these little sounds that lets me know that he missed me, it is so cute and feels really good

From my picture journal ~ The Love of My Life.....

Simple Woman's Daybook: October 13, 2009

Peggy began this meme The Simple Woman's Daybook in her words:

"Would you like to linger on the simple things...then join me and many others in taking a little look into the day plans and thoughts of those who are focusing on simplicity...beauty of the 'everyday moments'."

For Today: October 13th from Lorie's Daybook:

Outside my window~ hot, overcast

I am thinking ~ I wish this headache would go away!

I am thankful for ~ our Halloween decorations are finally done! :-)

I am wearing ~ denim overall shorts and black tank top (bare feet as always)

I am remembering ~ how we used to FREEZE putting up Halloween decorations in Connecticut, I SO don't miss that!!

I am going ~ to start physical therapy treatment this week on Thursday -- FINALLY

I am reading ~ The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Anne Shaffer and Annie Barrows

I am hoping ~ That my son will take all his Army training and return with his unit and all the troops safely from Afghanistan

On my mind ~ war; how absurd I think it is that President Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize; finances; my health and healthcare reform; how much I miss my children; how much I love my husband and doing things with him.

Noticing that ~ the older I get, the more I look to the past, and the more I am nostalgic for the things I did with my children and wish I could do them again, and hope that they look at them the same way that I do: with love and joy.

Pondering the words ~ From my friend Grace at
Sandier Pastures: "You have a very brave fighting spirit! An inspiration to everyone." It made me feel so wonderful... I have never felt that way about myself, and it was so nice to hear someone say that about me, so thank you Grace, I love you and your blog!

From the kitchen ~ I'm making ravioli with fresh tomatoes, sausage, garlic, and olive oil, with a little bit of grated cheese.

Around the house ~ WAY too many books that I want to read

One of my favorite things ~ Spending time with my hubby, just hanging out and listening to music.

From my picture journal...

Simple Woman's Daybook - October 5, 2009

Peggy began this meme The Simple Woman's Daybook in her words:

"Would you like to linger on the simple things...then join me and many others in taking a little look into the day plans and thoughts of those who are focusing on simplicity...beauty of the 'everyday moments'."

FOR TODAY ~ October 5th from Lorie's Daybook

Outside my window ~ Overcast, hot, humid, doesn't feel like fall at all.

I am thinking ~ Pretty soon our finances should get a little better.

I am thankful for ~ The fact that I am not going through this tough time alone. I have Bill, and that we are here for each other and we can still laugh together, every day.

I am wearing ~ A pink, green, and purple Mickey Mouse tank and shorts set.

I am remembering ~ How totally and completely afraid I felt just 1 month ago when Bill was in the hospital and I had NO idea what was going to happen to him, and I had no idea what I would do if I were left alone.

I am going ~ to do laundry today - whoopee!

I am reading ~ Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, with great difficulty... I just cannot get into it. Why do British writers feel the need to take 47 words to say what other very good writers can say in 5-10 what normal people can say in 2?

I am hoping ~ To get all our Halloween decorations up this week without hurting too much.

On my mind ~ The same thing everyday: my children (I miss them SO much), our finances, medical problems, and the economy in general.

From the learning rooms ~ Still trying to learn all I can about our iPhone and how to use it.

Noticing that ~ Lots of people are sneezing from the mold around here.

Pondering these words ~ The Hubs keeps reminding me, "Three more months."

From the kitchen ~ I made a delicious margarita pizza the other night, it was good for us, and it tasted delicious; plus I grew the basil myself.

Around the house ~ WAY too much laundry; and boxes & boxes of Halloween decorations.

One of my favorite things ~ Sunsets

From my picture journal ~ This is the face I see peeking around my laptop when I am blogging:

The Simple Woman's Daybook - Sept. 21, 2009

Hosted by Peggy at The Simple Woman's Daybook.

FOR TODAY

Outside my window ~ Sunshine and the UPS man, Nano thinks he got a package. He thinks everything is for him... but it is for Mommy!! Yippee...

I am thinking ~ Something has to be done about our health insurance crisis, I am still waiting to hear about my actual physical therapy... I was only approved for an evaluation, NO actual treatment!

I am thankful for ~ Bill's improving health -- FINALLY!!

From the kitchen ~ I made delicious boneless/skinless chicken two days ago, and we were able to make two meals from it, along with rice and fresh sliced tomatoes.

I am wearing ~ shorts, bare feet (as usual) and the Psyche t-shirt that I won.

I am creating ~ my first giveaway... how exciting!!

I am going ~ to the 250th Anniversary party of Guinness at the local pub in town, Shannon's on Thursday... "To Arthur!"

I am reading ~ Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein"

I am hoping ~ to that physiotherapy will help my back feel a little better.

I am hearing ~ Jeopardy, and doing pretty good tonight!

Around the house ~ WAY too much laundry!!

One of my favorite things - new chocolate cookies from Keebler with coconut... mmmmm!

A few plans for the rest of the week ~ besides the Guinness party, on Friday the Food & Wine fest at WDW in EPCOT center.

Here is picture for thought I am sharing: After I gave my "baby" a bath, I had him wrapped up in a towel to dry him off and keep him warm from the air conditioner and cuddled up in my arms. Then he and I proceded to fall asleep on the couch... The Hubs couldn't resist taking our picture, because he said we looked so cute and he "just loves us so much", isn't he the best?

Until next time..... Lorie

The Simple Woman's Daybook~September 14th Edition

Hosted by Peggy at The Simple Woman's Daybook.

FOR TODAY

Outside my window ~ Sunshine and clouds on and off temperature in the low 90s

I am thinking ~ This is going to be a very LONG week.

I am thankful for ~ Bill, my Book Club, and my supportive blogger friends

I am wearing ~ Gray shorts, University of Connecticut T-Shirt, bare foot

I am remembering ~ When my boys were little and in grade school because of all the posts by mommy bloggers with kids starting school for the first time.

I am creating ~ several photos for my own album.

I am going ~ to spend the rest of the week taking The Hubs to doctors appointments, mine were taken care of today.

I am reading ~ Frankenstein along with my Book Club, we thought it was appropriate for this holiday season! :-)

I am hoping ~ The Hub's lithotripsy on Thursday FINALLY gets rid of his kidney stone. This will be his second treatment, it is about 80% gone, so cross your fingers everyone!

On my mind ~ Finances and health insurance... I really hope this administration can finally get something done with this legislation. Please work together. I know I don't have the answers.

From the learning rooms ~ Trying to make the most of my blog, to increase traffic and use its resources to post more interesting stories.

Noticing that ~ There is always WAY too much laundry in this house for 2 people and one little Yorkie (and he only wears tiny shirts in the fall and winter).

Pondering these words ~ "Doctors are now using liposuction to reduce the size of kancles." I heard that on the news, are people THAT vane that they are going to have cosmetic surgery to reduce the size of their ANKLES?????

From the kitchen ~ I baked lots of goodies for our book club meeting last Thursday: brownies, blueberry muffins, and delicious (according to Annie and The Hubs) devils food cupcakes.

Around the house ~ Time to get out the Halloween decorations and start to dress up the house... it's the start of the holiday season!!

One of my favorite things ~ Snuggling up with The Hubs and Nano at the end of the day, then listening to them snore breath as I watch TV and blog.

A few plans for the rest of the week: Pick up a few groceries tomorrow, never got there last Friday; Wednesday The Hubs has appt. with MD for check-up and diet for his liver disease; Thursday is his surgery for kidney stone; Friday he has to recuperate. Saturday I'm gonna REST!!

From my picture journal ~ The love of my life... Hope everything works out OK this week with him, I truly need him and want him in my life for a very, very LONG time!!!

Isn't he cute?
