All aboard! Mother swan takes babies under her wing for trip across the pond!

This was so adorable and sweet, I wanted to share it with you....

"There comes a time on every family outing when the little ones can go no further and demand to be carried the rest of the way.

Luckily for these six fluffy cygnets, Mummy was happy to oblige. One by one, under her watchful eye, the brood clambered aboard her back for a ride.

Having checked the mother swan gently tucked back her wings to stop them falling off before gliding back to her nest.

The mute swan and her fluffy cargo were caught on camera by Richard Meston on a visit to Bicton Park Botanical Gardens near Sidmouth, Devon.

Mr Meston, 32, said: ‘The cygnets had been splashing in the water around their mum. They looked like they were starting to get tired and one by one started to scramble up on their mum’s back. She didn’t mind at all and even gave them a nudge up.’

The father of three from Bournemouth added: ‘After they got settled in, she covered them with her wings protectively like a cushion and went on her way'."

‘She kept looking back to make sure they were still there. It was almost as if she was giving them a quick telling-off to keep them in line. I could imagine them like kids in the back of the car saying, “Are we nearly there yet?” and squabbling.’

Julia Newth, of the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust in Slimbridge, Gloucestershire, said: ‘Mute swans are very protective of their young and will vigorously defend them from any threats. But this one is definitely showing the gentler side of her instincts in giving her young a lift on her back.

I'm January's Top Commenter on An Island Life = Amazon.com Gift Card

See my adorable button... I was awarded that by my friend Kailani over at An Island Life because I was her top commenter for the month of January... WooHoo!! Along with that adorable button, which I also have posted on my left sidebar, she generously sent me a $10.00 gift card to Amazon.com. What a sweetie-pie she is!
Please head on over to her blog and look around, she has three adorable daughters (Kacie, Kiana, and Kaila) and Kailani takes the most beautiful photographs of them. They live in Hawaii and she posts gorgeous photographs of the state, it makes me want to go and visit even more than ever. Kailani is also a flight attendant who has recently returned to work after maternity leave after the birth of her youngest beauty, Kaila, so we also get to learn about her life aboard airplanes. She does wonderful honest reviews from the heart and great giveaways.
Thank you, Kailani, I am very appreciative of the gift card, but I REALLY love the button! :-) I will keep it on my site proudly.

12 by 12 Reading Challenge: February

In January, I mentioned that I was participating in the 12 by 12 Reading Challenge that is designed to have us read more novels. In January, I only read two novels since I began the challenge on the 20th.

The month of February is being hosted by J. Kaye's Book Blog. If you'd like to play along, just write up your post and link it up to Kaye's blog for February. She also has a list of the hosts for the rest of the year. Feel free to participate in any or all months you would like.

Here is my list for February:

1. The Last Report o the Miracles at Little No Horse by Louise Erdrich

{I'll add more books and repost as I finish reading them}

Change in Accepted Comments

As with several of my fellow bloggers, I have been receiving LOTS of anonymous comments lately that have absolutely NOTHING to do with my post. I really don't mind people who post anonymously on my blog if they are going to stay on topic, but I have been getting tons of comments that are for male enhancement drugs {you know which ones I mean}; all kinds of websites that are for get rich quick schemes; and now I've even been getting them for pornographic sites {enought already!}.

Because of all this, it has become necessary for me to stop allowing anonymous comments on my blog. I am very sorry if this causes any difficulty to my faithful followers, but I want to keep my blog clean and free from spam and garbage. It is really annoying to me and to all the other bloggers this has affected.

I really appreciate all the wonderful comments I do receive and hope that you will all continue to comment. This may also allow me to visit some of you who have come by and visited me without leaving your name but left me some beautiful comments. I would love to repay your generosity and visit your blog, or just send you a wonderful email.

Thank you for your understanding. Have a wonderful day.

Mellow Yellow Monday: First Sign of Spring

MellowYellowMondayBadge

Drowsey Monkey began this meme... to see why and view the rules, check out her blog here.

Our neighbor around the corner planted these the other day to "force spring" as she said. I took these two days later and they are looking really pretty and doing very well. Too bad the weather won't cooperate with the flowers.

Don't forget to check out the other participants and link your post here..

Blue Monday: Flowers at Disney World

Happy Blue Monday.....

(This week, I did not take the photograph.) This is a photograph of good friends of ours who live in Florida's panhandle who went to Disney World last weekend (too bad the weather was so cloudy for them). They had their photo taken in front of my favorite statue in the park - it is of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse with the saying "I only hope that we don't lose sight of one thing - that it was all started by a mouse." Notice the beautiful blue flowers surrounding the statue... a sign of spring..... YIPPEE!!!

Don't forget to link your post to Smiling Sally's blog and visit the other Blue Monday participants.

Until next time..... Lorie
