"Let it Glow" Festival of Trees to Benefit Noah's Light Foundation

.

On November 30th, Celebration Town Hall will be all lit up with the glow of festival trees to benefit Noah's Light Foundation, as you know one of my favorite charities. There will be many ways to help the charity:

~ Purchase one of the beautifully decorated designer trees for your own home
~ Shop for holiday decorations; let your children shop on their own, too
~ Enter raffles to win great holiday items
~ Purchase a photograph of yourself with the Big Elf, himself - SANTA CLAUS
~ Enjoy the delicious holiday goodies, including the "Glowtini," the special drink of the event.
~ Of course, direct donations are always accepted  =)

Tickets in advance are $10 for adults/$5 for children 12 and under; tickets at the door are $15 for adults/$5 for children 12 and under.

To purchase tickets in advance head over to Noah's Light Foundation Event Page.

To make a donation at any time, head over to Noah's Light Donation Page.

Twas the night of Noah’s Party,
and all through Town Hall,

The people were laughing and having a ball.

The goodies were passed by servers with care,
As cocktails were flowing from bartenders with flair.

The music – it played, the raffles were won,
The carolers sang and the night wasn’t done.

For out of the blue, the Guests stopped and they paused,
And they knew they were there for a wonderful cause.

To help our Foundation find the cure; find the answer,
So that no other child loses their life to brain cancer. *

Hope to see you there!

@NoahsLight Foundation is $10K Recipient from Chase Community Giving

.

If you remember on Sept. 6th I posted that Noah's Light Foundation, a charity that I am involved with and means a great deal to me, was nominated for a grant from Chase Giving Community.

I want to thank you all so much for voting and sharing it on your Facebook pages and Tweeting about it. The grants were given out on Sept. 19th, Noah's birthday, and the Foundation was a lucky recipient of a $10,000 grant. YIPPEE!!!

That money will go a long way in helping us fulfill our mission to find a cure for pediatric brain cancer by supporting visionary doctors in pediatric oncology, funding new research in the field, raising awareness of our cause, and enriching the lives of the brave children struggling with this disease.

I know that Noah is up in heaven smiling down on all of us who helped raise the money knowing that we will find a cure sooner than later.

Thank you all again, let's not let another child die from this horrible disease.  Don't forget you can donate any time by clicking on the photo below.

October: Adopt a Dog Month

.
My Adopted Baby, Mandie =)

October is American Humane Association's Adopt-A-Dog Month. A dog can bring SO much to your life:

  • an exercise buddy
  • a best friend and confidant for your child
  • a dog you can train with to learn animal-assisted therapy
  • a partner in agility competitions
  • a constant companion for your favorite senior citizen
  • a fuzzy face to greet you after a hard day at work

  • PLEASE if you are looking to add a furry family member to your household, call or visit your local shelter to find the perfect dog for your needs. There are (unfortunately) so many kinds of doggies at the shelters that I'm sure you can find the one that will fill your home and your heart.

If you are looking for a particular breed that you don't see at the shelter, go online to find a breed-specific rescue group in need of adopters like you.

We are truly happy with everyone of the doggies we have adopted, sure, we may be a little crazy to have five, but we love them all and have gotten five times the love in return!

For more information, or if you're not in a position to adopt but can donate a small amount to help care for these precious creatures until they are adopted, head on over to the Humane Societies website. You can even donate to your local shelter. I know they would appreciate anything you can contribute, be it food, blankets, money, or even your time.

Love & Fleece "Lamby Lambpants" Review and ***Giveaway***

    .

    GIVEAWAY CLOSED - WINNER CHOSEN.
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO ENTERED.

I recently had the awesome privilege to work with an incredible company named Love and Fleece who's motto is, "When it comes to what we get to do for a living, each day is a kiss from the Good Karma Fairy." How could I NOT work with a company and people like that?

Let me introduce you to Lamby Lambpants, an absolutely adorable stuffed lovey "invented over five years ago, a sassy cartoon lamb with blue cuffed pants and a plastic water bottle cap for an eye."  Lamby has a perceived disability with his missing eye. This gives parents, caregivers, or teachers the ability to help children learn that any disability, quirk or flaw they may have can be worn as a badge of courage. It's OK to love yourself exactly how you are.

There is also a digital component to each lovey where you can explore Lamby Lambpants' online world and listen to silly song parodies, wisdoms, and stories.. However, when you get your your OWN special toy, you receive a secret code so you can enter a special section on the site with even more content.

When I first got my package in the mail, I had to assure the doggies that it wasn't anything for them. Once I opened it and showed them Lamby, all of them except Mumbo lost interest. Mumbo wanted to see every little bit of Lamby (I kept the plastic on him because I have plans to give mine to a family in town with 4 children, one of whom is developmentally delayed). I let Mumbo rest his chin on Lamby (through the plastic) and he loved how soft Lamby was. Then I had to tell Mumbo to go away as I was going to really inspect Lamby.

I completely fell in love with him... he is so cute, I love his little jeans and how he moves his arms and legs. The bottle cap eye is actually adorable and truly unique. Something that would be great to start a discussion with your children, especially if you know someone that has a disability. I also LOVE the online site that Lamby has with his songs and stories, you really have to get one to get the full effect of the site. Kids will have so much fun with their toy and the site together. It is really well thought out.

The only problem I see with having one Lamby is if you have more than one child, they are not going to want to share because he is too cute and cuddly.

One of my absolute favorite things about this company, however, is the fact that they have what they call their "When you buy, We give" policy..... for every toy you buy, they give one to a sick or needy child. How truly wonderful is that!! Doesn't that make you want to go out and buy at least one right now? With September being Childhood Cancer Awareness month, think of all the good we could do if we all just bought ONE and Love and Fleece could match our purchase? How many happy children would that be.....

Well, one of my lucky readers has the chance to make one child very happy in the next two weeks because I have the awesome privilege of giving one Lamby Lambpants away through the extreme generosity of Love and Fleece, LLC.  Here is what you need to do to enter the giveaway:

MANDATORY entry: Head over to Love and Fleece website and tell me one thing you learned about the company or the people who run it. (To be fair, it cannot be the same as the entry before yours - at least let me know you looked at the website.)

~ Like Love and Fleece on Facebook (1 entry) - leave your FB name
~ Follow Love and Fleece on Twitter (1 entry) - leave your Twitter name

    Now the boring legal stuff:

-Winner will be drawn on Monday, Sept. 24th at 10pm ET via Random.org.

-Winner will have 48 hours to respond to email, or another winner will be selected.

***More wonderful news from Love and Fleece... if you cannot wait to see if you won, or even if you want more than one and you DO win, the lovely people at Love and Fleece have decided to offer my fabulous readers free shipping on all orders placed in the month of September by using the code: freeship when you place your order.***

Let's make lots of children happy this month and good luck to all of you.

G-OIL® Toyota to Race for Noah’s Light at Daytona on July 6th, 2012

    .

From Green Earth Technologies, Inc. press release:

The Green Earth Technologies, Inc. (G.E.T.) (OTC bulletin board: GETG.OB) #19 Noah’s Light / G-OIL Toyota Camry will be on a mission at Daytona’s Subway Jalapeno 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series race July 6th. The TriStar Motorsports team and driver Tayler Malsam will be racing to promote awareness for the Noah’s Light Foundation and the “Fast Forward” campaign for pediatric brain cancer research.

Created in 2010 by Amber and Dennis Larkin, the Winter Garden, Florida based Noah’s Light Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, was created in honor of young Noah Larkin who lost his fight with pediatric brain cancer earlier this year. The Fast Forward campaign is designed to accelerate research and cures for pediatric cancer through an aggressive and collaborative program including a number of leading cancer research organizations.

    Amber Larkin, Noah’s Light Foundation:
“The Noah’s Light mission is to find a cure for pediatric brain cancer by supporting visionary doctors in pediatric oncology, funding new research in the field and raising awareness. The speed, communication and teamwork of NASCAR represent the approach that the Noah’s Light Foundation is bringing to cancer research. We are on Fast Forward for today’s children.”

Jeffrey Loch, President and CMO of Green Earth Technologies, Inc.:
“We are honored to feature the Noah’s Light Foundation on the #19 G-OIL Toyota Camry to help raise awareness of the Foundation and the Fast Forward campaign. GET is concerned about the environment and consumed toxicity as well as carbon emissions and VOC’s being emitted into the air or dumped into the soil that reaches our groundwater. GET was founded on the premise of creating safer solutions that work.”

Dr. Dennis A. Steindler, Ph.D., The Evelyn F. and William L. McKnight Brain Institute, University of Florida:
“Pediatric brain cancer should not exist on our planet, and we need to rapidly and innovatively apply all of the fruits of our progressing research efforts toward better treating these and all of the childhood cancers. Just as with environmental issues, cancer can be considered to be an invasive species that requires out-of-the-box, adaptive and less toxic therapeutic approaches to strategically treat this overgrowth of our own body’s cells. Collaborative teams like NASCAR, Noah’s Light Foundation and Green Earth Technologies are just the ticket to fast forward transformational research discoveries to new treatments and cures for these kids.”

Tearful Family Reunion with Dog they Thought was Dead

    .

I saw this on the web earlier and it moved me so much that I had to share it with all of you.

The ASPCA is one of the charities that I donate to every year, unfortunately the amount has gotten a little smaller each year, but I still try to find a way to help, even if it's only with a bag of dog food.

If you are considering getting a dog for your family, PLEASE consider adopting - you can save a life and receive the love of a lifetime - I know we have!

My Dear Friends The Larkins are in Need of Your Prayers

My dear friends the Larkins who's son Noah has been battling a terrible brain tumor for years need your prayers. Poor Noah has been declining in health rapidly over the last few weeks and his mom Amber has asked for just a couple of things. Mainly, to "pray for strength. Please pray for Landin - his little sister - (I will need a lot of help with baby girl. Noah is not only who she wants “to marry,” but is her best friend. She worships him.)" (italics added)

Also, she doesn't "want is one more dime spent on us – PLEASE, PLEASE donate it to Noah’s Light. Whether it be $20 that you would have spent on flowers or $1 for a card – DONATE IT!!!!!!! Help me battle this demon – our fight is not over!"

This family has given me more joy than anyone can ever know. Through all that they have been through, Noah has brought light, love, and happiness to more people than I think he and his family will ever know.

The one thing Amber wrote about her love of her son that brought tears to my eyes was: "This is what is important; this is what to remember. God gave us a REAL, visible Angel and through Christ, Noah has actually made miracles – we are so blessed!"

Please keep this dear family in mind as you spend time with your family this holiday weekend.

Southwood, FL Family Wins National Contest for Their Christmas Light Display

    .
The home of Derek and Courtney Whitis in SouthWood, which has been drawing spectators to its colorful and musical light display for weeks, has won the Good Morning America Big Bright Holiday Lights showdown contest. The visual display is accompanied by a four-minute soundtrack that plays a portion of the song for each branch of the military.

While the display will likely send the Whitis family’s electric bill sky high, Courtney Whitis says that the cost of the display is “nothing in comparison to what the troops do every day for our freedom.” She goes on to say, “We did this just to pay tribute to those who have served, are serving and will serve in the military protecting our freedom.”

Here is the winning home, I love it:

It is SO moving and a wonderful tribute to our troops. The Whitises seek to raise awareness and money for the Semper Fi Fund, which provides assistance for wounded soldiers in their recovery process. Those who would like to donate can visit semperfifund.org.

Let us continue to pray and support our troops and their families not only this time of the year, but all year long as they fight and sacrifice for our freedoms.

    Merry Christmas to you all.

Larry the Cable Guy's Git-R-Done Foundation Charity Event

    .

Sunday night was Larry the Cable Guy's Git-R-Done Foundation charity event with both silent and live auctions. Bill and I had the privilege to volunteer during the event checking in people as they arrived and helping them check out and pay for their auction items.

The food was delicious and the people were very generous. Larry was SO nice and very grateful to all of the volunteers who helped out during the event. All of the volunteers were even treated to dinner the next night as a thank you for all we did. Here are some photos of the event and the dinner the next night.

Larry the Cable Guy's "Git-R-Done" Foundation Golf Classic

    .

This weekend I have the privilege of helping my friend Lynn out at a charity event at the Grand Cypress Golf Club in Orlando, FL organized by Larry the Cable Guy's Git-R-Done Foundation to benefit Arnold Palmer Medical Center and the International Hip Dysplasia Institute.

Larry won $300,000 on "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader." He is donating that money to The Arnold Palmer Foundation to further research on hip dysplasia

Hip dysplasia means that the bones of the hip joint are not aligned correctly. It affects thousands of children and adults each year and is known by many different names:
    • Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH)
    • Hip Dislocation
    • Congenital Dislocation of the Hip (CDH)
    • Loose Hips
Hip dysplasia prevents the hip joint from functioning properly and the joint wears out much faster than normal, much like a car's tires will wear out faster when out of alignment. It is also a "silent" condition that means pain is not normally felt until much later stages, making it harder to detect.

Approximately 1 out of every 20 full-term babies has some hip instability and 2-3 out of every 1,000 infants will require treatment. In spite of the frequency of DDH in babies and the potential for life-long disability caused by DDH, the awareness of this condition is poor outside of the medical profession. Early diagnosis, prevention, and simple treatment is the best solution, however many hip dislocations are difficult to treat with the current methods of care. This event will help bring money and recognition to the disease so that more children can be helped and cured.

This two day event on Sunday, Oct. 16th and Monday, Oct. 17th includes golfing, awards dinner and a cocktail party with both a live and silent auction. I am going to be involved in the cocktail party, signing in those who arrive and then taking care of the sales at the auction - I'm really excited about helping out such a fabulous charity. I'm also psyched to be able to meet some of the celebrities who will be there taking part in all of the events, including:

Larry the Cable Guy- Git-R-Done! Larry was born in the back of an El Camino during a Foghat concert. He has been touring for over 20 years and has enjoyed success with his Blue Collar friends, Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall and Ron White. He currently stars in Only in America on The History Channel and will lend his voice to Mater, the lovable tow truck, in this summer’s Cars 2!

Ron White- Comedian Ron “Tater Salad” White is best known as the cigar smoking, scotch drinking funnyman from the “Blue Collar Comedy” phenomenon. He has two Grammy nominations, a Gold Record, two of the top rated one-hour specials in Comedy Central history, and a book that appeared on the New York Times Best Seller List.

Boo Weekley- Since joining the PGA in 2007, Boo already has 35 finishes in the Top 25. He has 2 wins, both at the Verizon Heritage in 2007 and 2008. He is nicknamed after cartoon hero Yogi Bear’s sidekick, “Boo Boo” Bear.

Dennis Rasmussen- Dennis was a starting pitcher for Major League Baseball’s San Diego Padres and then played with New York Yankees Cincinnati Reds,Chicago Cubs and Kansas City Royals He batted and threw left-handed. In 1988, his 14-4 record with the Padres tied him with for the team single season Won-Loss record (.778).

Joey Fatone- Joey Fatone first tasted fame as one of the five pop artists of the popular boy band ‘N Sync. When ‘N Sync disbanded, he decided to use his creative genius elsewhere, appearing in a Broadway production of Little Shop of Horrors and in highly-acclaimed films such as My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Fatone placed second on Dancing with the Stars, season 4 and recently finished work on a new movie, Inkubus

Davey Johnson-As a major league ball player, Johnson reached the World Series 4 times with The Baltimore Orioles in the late 60′s and early 70′s, and won it all twice with them. He has the distinction of being the last person to get a hit off of Sandy Koufax. After his career ended in ’78, Johnson became the head coach of the New York Mets where he won the World Series as a head coach in 1986.

Doc Rivers-Rivers spent most of his playing career with The Atlanta Hawks, showing off is great defensive skills. He became the Head Coach of The Orlando Magic in 1999, winning the Coach of the Year award in 2000. In 2004, he became the Head Coach of The Boston Celtics and it is there that he led the team to win The NBA Championship in 2008!

Lee Janzen- Janzen has won eight times on the PGA Tour, most notably the 1993 and 1998 U.S. Opens. In 1993, Janzen defeated Payne Stewart, en route to tying the 72-hole U.S. Open scoring record of 8-under par. Five years later, he again beat out Stewart to win his second U.S. Open.
