The Pepsi Refresh Project - SOAR... Please Vote

.

A neighbor of mine, Tisse Mallon has submitted her idea to the Pepsi Refresh Project and has been accepted into the running!  Her idea is to help sexual assault survivors step out of the past and into the future. She will work with SOAR, a non-profit, national awareness, education organization geared to empower survivors of sexual violence and enhance the public's understanding and acceptance of rape victims. This is a project that is very dear to my heart, so I wanted to share it with all of you and ask that you vote for this very important project. Here is the overview of the project from the Pepsi Refresh website where you can learn more information:

"The SOAR STORY project brings a series of 28 workshops to 28 U.S. cities. 2,800+ sexual assault survivors will be empowered to transition out of the past, into the present and envision a powerful future. Each STORY workshop lasts 6 hours and provides a step by step process to obtain personal clarity through story telling. The survivors are guided through the creation of a visual outline of their lives including their past, present and imagined future. Their unique stories come to life using simple pictures, symbols and key words. The journey of this workshop is one of self-discovery, love and inspiration."

You can vote once a day for this project by clicking on the widget above (or on my sidebar) or from your mobile phone by text message! Simply Text 105435 to Pepsi (73774) - standard text messaging rates apply.

{Thank you to my other neighbor, Maria Mallon, for bringing this information to my attention}

The LaVene Family Trail of Nightmares

This Halloween the community where I live is throwing the first annual LaVene Family Trail of Nightmares. It looks like it is going to be a blast, plus it is Celebration's way of benefitting Help Now of Osceola, Inc. - an organization who's mission is to provide safe shelter and empower survivors of domestic and sexual violence through counseling and advocacy while promoting violence free living through community awareness.

Take a look at this video, it was made by the Dr. LaVene who is the inspiration behind the Trail of Nightmares... he LOVES Halloween:

So if you are in the central Florida area Oct. 23,24,29,30, or 31.... come on over and check our my little community, I'd love to have you visit, I'm sure you'd like it here.

Until next time..... Lorie
