ArtsFest 2012: Winter Park Historical Museum ~ The Way We Were: Park Avenue in the '60s and '70s

.

Continuing the 2012 central Florida ArtsFest celebration, Bill and I attending "The Way We Were: Park Avenue in the '60s and '70s" at the Winter Park Historical Museum on February 8th. Although the museum was small - one room to be exact - they packed quite a few things into this exhibit about what Winter Park was like in the '60s and '70s.

Even if you didn't live in central Florida during that time, there were enough items in the exhibit to bring back memories to anyone who lived through that time period to evoke tons of emotions: happiness, love, and even sadness.

Here are some photos to bring you back..... (click on any photo to enlarge)

There were many other items on display, but these were some of my favorites - and you knew I wouldn't leave out Elvis! The Museum is open Tuesday - Friday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. They are closed Sunday and Monday.  We really had an enjoyable time and the docent there was extremely sweet. The only complaint that I had is that it is not wheelchair accessable.

ArtsFest 2012 ~ Urban Rethink: Orlando Improv Festival

.

For the month of February central Florida is having it's annual ArtsFest, a celebration of arts and cultural events taking place throughout Lake, Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties in central Florida all for free to the public. ArtsFest provides a taste of everything the arts community has to offer right in my own backyard.

Bill and I are planning on attending several of these events. The first one we went to was at Urban Rethink. We went to see the Orlando Improv Festival - a group of local improvisational actors who would take 3 words from the audience and then perform skits based upon those words.

We really had a great time, the skits were funny, the actors personable and the audience really diversified - all ages and ethnicities. We hope to do this again some day.

If you're in the central Florida area, check out the ArtsFest website and head to one of the events, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
