2. Why is the third hand on a watch/clock called a SECOND hand?

3. If a word is misspelled in the dictionary, how would we ever know?

26. Why do we call it a television SET when it is only ONE unit?

27. Christmas is such a strange holiday... what other time of the year do you sit in front of a dead tree and eat candy out of your sock?

28. Why do we drive on a parkway and park in the driveway?

These are just some of the things I wonder about when I cannot sleep at night.  Are there things like this that fill your mind? Or am I the only one who has lost her mind with idiosyncrasies? Let me know in your comments, so I have some new things to put in my brain.  =)

Happy 100th Birthday OREO Cookie ~ Yummy!!

.

Today we celebrate the 100th Birthday of America's favorite cookie... The Oreo!!

No matter how you eat it.... by twisting it open, licking the cream out of it, dunk it in milk (MY personal favorite, Double Stuff to be precise!), or just bite right into it, there is such a distinctive, delicious taste to the Oreo that NO OTHER cookie can match. Others have tried, but seriously failed.

There are soooo many things you can make with Oreo cookies, too. Here's a few recipes that I love... The first one is mine and is totally addictive so I don't make them often:

~ Brownie Covered Oreo Cups

~ Oreo Dirt Cake

~ Oreo Mud Pie

~ Deep Fried Oreos (I guess you can deep fry anything these days)

Actually if you search Food.com, you will find 906 recipes using Oreo cookies, not to mention 1009 recipes on the Nabisco site!! I think I may go on a mission to try all of them. =)  Roll me over when I am done. TeeHee!!

So no matter what type of Oreo cookie is your favorite - mine being the Double Stuff - let's all celebrate together today with a tip of a glass of milk and a cookie to the greatest cookie ever invented.

Happy Birthday Oreo!!

I Love Christmas Post #9

.
One of the best things about living here in Celebration is the Now Snowing Nightly that happens each year from the day after Thanksgiving to New Years Day every night 3 times a night. It draws families from all over the country and even the world.

It is actually a soapy substance that looks like snow, but it just as slippery as real snow, so I stay away from it - you know me, I can't stay upright on dry ground. TeeHee!  Recently Bill and I took two of the doggies downtown to just watch the festivities - that's where Nano met Santa. Here are some photos of the kids having fun.

Don't they all look like they had a great time? I love just sitting and watching them, it makes me smile!

Self-Portrait Sunday ~~ Grammy's Funny Face

.
Maria's Space

My friend Maria over at Maria's Space started this meme to get us out from BEHIND the camera and showcase our own lovely faces on our blogs.... We don't want to have a blog full of our family, friends and children and when we go back years later and wonder.... where the heck were we and what did we look like?

I love how Maria is always posting photos of herself in silly poses or making funny faces..... SOOOO today I decided to to post a photo of myself that is utterly ridiculous. This is a picture of what my grandson calls, "Grammy Lorie's Funny Face," whenever I make this face, he cracks up hysterically.  To me, there is no greater sound in the whole world than that of a child's laughter, so I'd make this face for him anytime I see him - which is never enough... They live in Texas.

So... if I can post that sill photograph, there is no excuse for any of you not to participate in this meme.  I know I am late this week, but we had a rough weekend {too many details to get into, but I'm gonna catch up today.}  Join Maria by posting your beautiful face and linking up with Maria over at Maria's Space and visiting the other participants and leaving them a nice comment.

Thursday's Recipe Swap Meet: Sirloin Roast in the Crock Pot

.

OK... we know you have all these recipes that you love to make. You got them from your mother, your grandmother, a magazine, or maybe you made it up, perhaps you don't even remember where the recipe came from. Well, how about sharing them with all of us? We are going to share ours with you every Thursday!

My good friend and, according to her husband: excellent cook, Dolly over at XmasDolly are now doing a recipe swap; we want to share ours with you and wold LOVE to get some of your favorites as well... So welcome to Thursday's Recipe Swap Meet, here is all you have to do:

Photobucket

Post a recipe on your blog, sign the linky on either blog (they will be linked), grab our new button - isn't she cute? (right here and on my sidebar and on my Co-Chef Dolly's blog) and check out the recipes. Don't forget that each week you actually will be getting at least TWO for the price of ONE because both Dolly and I will post a recipe on each of our blogs. How simple is that???

Stumped for something to make for dinner, come on over to our blogs and find a recipe.... Maybe you'll like my:

Crock-Pot Sirloin Roast

3-4 lb Top round beef sirloin roast (about 4" thick)
6-8 whole garlic cloves
Herbs to taste: basil, salt, pepper, rosemary, bay leaves
2 cups beef stock (can use broth)
1/4 cup Teriyaki sauce
1/4 - 1/2 cup dark red wine
Worestershire sauce to taste
Water to cover meat

Put liner into crock pot (makes clean up SOOOO much easier) and put meat into center of crock. Sprinkle all spices over meat, flip and spice other side of meat; then add garlic cloves.

Add liquids to crock pot, using enough water to make sure meat is covered completely. Cover and cook on high for 5-6 hours or low for 8-9 hours.

Meat will come out fork tender, juicy, hot and steamy. You can use the left over juice in the crock pot to pour over the meat or....

.... over the rice pilaf that I made to go along with it and the green beans.

It also goes REALLY well with Pedigree and Mighty Dog, just ask Nano, Mia, Mandie, Mai-Li, Maila and Mumbo.  :)

Hope you try it out for your family and that y'all like it as much as we do.

So now all you have to do is sign our linky so we all can find your recipes. You check out all ours and we will check out all yours. If you don't want to write it all down and you know of one on line just post a link to it on your blog or leave it in a comment if you prefer!

For more recipes, head on over to Ms.BiBi at Daily Organized Chaos.

Let's get cooking..... Bon Appetit!

How'd Y'all Say That Again???

.

I ran across this Blog Hop on Cat's blog Three Kids and Us and just had to join in... I know I am later than everyone else, but it is just so much fun, that I had to share it with everyone.  Cat found it on Annie's blog Mama Dweeb.  The idea behind the hop is to see how people from all around the country pronounce different words and hear what they call different things... It really is a ton of fun. My favorite is Jon and Cat from Three Kids and Us they live in the same house and can't even agree. TeeHee.....

So here is how a woman who grew up in New England, the center of Connecticut, to be precise and then moved to Florida sounds: (the list of words and questions are listed under the video)

Words:

Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught

And here are the list of questions:

~What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?

~What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
~What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
~What do you call gym shoes?
~What do you say to address a group of people?
~What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
~What do you call your grandparents?
~What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
~What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
~What is the thing you change the TV channel with?

OK, so let's hear how you sound and head on over to the other blogs and see how every body else sounds, one of my favorites is Annette from Funnyjello, you really have to check it out, she's from Yew-Tah.

Have a great week!

Football Funnies

.

In honor of the Super Bowl, I thought I'd share these silly little funnies with y'all... enjoy:

~ What did the football coach say to the broken vending machine?

    "Give me my quarterback!"

~ What do you call a lineman's kids?

    Chips off the old blocker.

~ Why did the poor quarterback have his receivers cross at midfield?

Because he was trying to make ends meet.

~ Where do hungry football players play?

    In the Supper Bowl.

Hope you have fun watching the Super Bowl whoever you are rooting for... my team isn't in it, so I'll just be watching it for the game, and of course the commercials.  We will probably be going to our local favorite Irish pub, Shannon's of Celebration to watch it with some friends - if I can shake this awful cold and feel better.  Tell me what you are going to do for the big game or are you just going to have a regular Sunday?
